I just wanted to note that with no major hassle have I compiled/installed/started marketcetera and photon on my dev system running Gentoo Linux.
If I start using it some more, I might create the relevant ebuilds. Anyone else using Gentoo is free to contact me about that.
Sorry, this is posted in the completely wrong place. If a mod can move it, please do so.

I think the post is suitable for this forum - no need to move it.
Good to know it worked smoothly on Gentoo. We didn't try it in house but we do try to make it as generic as possible so community members like you can use it in their dev environment of choice.
Thanks,
Yoram

What is the linux distribution used by marketcetera developers?
Basically, if I'm just about to get started, which one should I pick?
I currently use Fedora. Is it going to work on Fedora out of the box?
Regards,
-D

We recommend Ubuntu Linux - that's what we use internally. Most of our build machines are Ubuntu 8.04, but it certainly works just as well on the newer versions
We've tested Marketcetera on RedHat, so it should work on Fedora as well - but if you are distribution-agnostic, i'd go with Ubuntu.

FWIW, I use Gentoo myself. I haven't made any ebuilds for it yet, but it's on my list of things to do.

Hi! I use Gentoo Linux too! Who ever wrote the ebuilds? I do not want to write again, if someone already written this!

To my knowledge, no one has created an ebuild for Marketcetera. I would like to have native packaging available for all Linux distributions and am personally partial to Gentoo because I love giving my compiler a good workout. If you're interested in contributing in this way, please contact me.
